Depending on your configuration, documents may be statically and/or dynamically linked to a map feature. Documents are retrieved in exactly the same way, regardless if they are linked statically or dynamically to the map feature.

  • A static link between a document and a map feature is created when a user has determined that a relationship exists between a document and a feature of the map, and he/she has manually attached the document to the map.

  • A dynamic link between a document and a map feature is created when the relationship between the document and the map feature is automatically determined based on a shared value, such as an address.

Both static and dynamic links can be used in the same web mapping application.

For example:

A construction company has a map application displaying a soon-to-be built housing development. The FIN-Deed Document Type is dynamically linked to the web mapping application based on a shared value, such as a parcel ID. Each FIN-Deed document stored in OnBase is automatically associated with the correct map feature without any further user involvement.

A blueprint of the type of house to be built on the lot, stored in the ENG-Blueprints Document Type, is also stored in OnBase, but its Keyword Types do not share any common values with map attributes in the web mapping application. The engineer is able to statically link the correct blueprint to the map feature, manually determining the relationship between the document and the map feature.

Note:

Depending on your system's configuration, you may not be able to create static links. See your system administrator if you have any questions about this behavior.
