Workflow licenses are released after the Workflow layout is closed, the email message is closed, or the Workflow ad hoc task is executed. If there are multiple conditions under which the license is being consumed, the license is released after the last condition is closed. For example, the Workflow layout and an email message containing the Workflow Task Pane button are both open. Under these conditions, the Workflow license is only released after closing both the Workflow layout and the email message.
Workflow licenses are also released after a five-minute period of inactivity where you are not performing Workflow actions within Outlook. The system attempts to automatically acquire a license after you perform a Workflow action within Outlook.
If there are no licenses available at this point, the following message is displayed: Your client license was released due to inactivity and a license could not be acquired because all licenses are currently in use. You may still continue working.
An attempt is made to acquire an unused license periodically, and this message is displayed until a license is acquired.
