Configuration items can be exported from one database and imported into another database using the Configuration Import/Export Wizards. Items are exported to an export package, which is then imported to another database. Password policies can be applied to the passwords used to import and create export packages, though not all policy settings apply to export package passwords.

If you are creating export packages and want to enforce a password policy for them, a separate export password policy should be created that reflects its intended use. The following items should be noted for export package passwords:

  • Passwords must be at least 14 characters in length. If a password policy is being used that requires fewer than 14 characters, the export cannot be completed.

  • The Rotation, Change Frequency, and Account Lockout options are not enforced on export package passwords. Complexity and Content Quotas settings are enforced.
