To retrieve thumbnails, the Unity Scheduler must execute the DICOM Thumbnails Retrieval task, which is configured using the Unity Management Console. This task retrieves thumbnail images from the NilRead server and stores them as renditions of existing documents created using the HL7 DICOM Processor.

The following steps contain information specific to configuring a DICOM Thumbnails Retrieval task. For information about installing and configuring the Unity Management Console, see the Unity Scheduler module reference guide.

To configure the thumbnail retrieval task:

  1. In the Unity Management Console, connect to the Application Server using either an existing or new task scheduler.
  2. In the Console tree, expand the task scheduler.
  3. Click Create Task Group from the Action pane.
  4. Enter a name for the new task group.
This task group is used by the scheduler service to identify the task to execute. It should contain only a single thumbnail retrieval task.
  5. Click Create Task in the Action pane. The Task Wizard is displayed.
  6. Enter a name for the new task in the Name field.
  7. Enter a description for the task in the Description field.
  8. Select the task group you created from the Task Group drop-down list.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Select DICOM Thumbnails Retrieval from the drop-down list.
  11. Click Next. The User Group selection page is displayed.
  12. Select a user group from the User Group drop-down list, and then click Add to give that group access to manage the task in the Unity Management Console.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Configure the task's schedule to set how often the service checks for new thumbnail retrieval requests generated by the HL7 DICOM Processor.
  15. Click Next.
  16. If you added an interval schedule to the task, select The interval schedules should always execute.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Leave both The task should start at and The task should no longer execute after deselected. If the task is allowed to expire, the scheduler service will stop checking for thumbnail retrieval requests.
  19. Click Next.
  20. Review the summary of the task settings, and then click Finish.
  21. Create the service that executes the task. See Creating the Scheduler Service.
