Upgrades are an essential part of supporting an application, and are considered major events in the life cycle of a software solution. They are part of the total cost of ownership and are vital to increasing your ROI. They are also necessary in order to reduce security risks, increase efficiency, and to evolve with changes in technology and modern business.

Due to the inherent risks involved with performing an upgrade of an enterprise application, upgrades may sometimes be deferred for long periods of time, creating a greater delta between versions and inadvertently increasing the complexity of future upgrades.

Upgrading incrementally allows more time for testing and verifying that the existing solution configuration works with the new version of OnBase, and can help to reduce the complexity of troubleshooting. Upgrading in parallel ensures that if a problem occurs, the previous version remains available in a known working configuration you can roll back to if necessary. This process is referred to as an Incremental Parallel Upgrade Process (IPUP). The main goal of the IPUP is to reduce the risk of interrupted user, process or system productivity.

Ultimately, IPUP is based on Hyland's commitment to Agile principles and desire to provide an upgrade process that reduces the risk that any part of our customers' organizations will be unable to perform their work.
