The following steps describe a basic IPUP for the OnBase Client. These steps may vary depending on the overall solution.
- Perform a full backup of the OnBase database. Ensure a regular backup schedule is in place.
- Upgrade the OnBase database.
-
Selectively install the new Client software on experienced users' workstations without removing or affecting their current installations of the OnBase Client. Instruct the experienced users to use the new OnBase Client to perform their duties.
If an issue is detected in the new version, the user should report it and return to using the previous version OnBase Client if necessary.
-
Install the new Client software on less-experienced users' workstations next, taking care to document their difficulties adapting to GUI or process changes.
Creating training materials and providing answers to common questions can help lessen the impact on future users as they adapt to using the new software.
-
Install the new Client software on remaining users' machines.
Remaining users can be upgraded with better confidence knowing that both experienced and less-experienced users are comfortably using the new software.
Assuming no major issues are discovered, upgrade additional users' workstations every few days or at predetermined intervals until all workstations are upgraded.
- Once all users have been upgraded and have used the new Client for a period of time, the legacy version of OnBase can be removed.
- Check and verify that the backup processes are functional.
