The following steps describe a basic IPUP for the OnBase Unity Client. These steps may vary depending on the overall solution.
- Perform a full backup of the OnBase database. Ensure a regular backup schedule is in place.
- Upgrade the OnBase database.
-
Configure a new parallel OnBase Web Server.
- Install the Web Server, following the documentation and internal solution design requirements.
- Configure the Web Server, copying settings where appropriate from the current production Web.config file, and adding them to the Web.config file of the new Web Server.
-
Provide the URL for the upgraded Web Server to a select group of experienced users, and instruct them to use the new version to perform their duties.
If an issue is detected in the new version, the user should report it and return to using the URL for the previous version if necessary. If upgrading from version 9.2 or later, ActiveX controls can be installed side-by-side on the same workstation. If upgrading from an older version, The ActiveX controls need to be removed to roll back.
-
Provide the URL for the Web Server to less-experienced users next, taking care to document their difficulties adapting to GUI or process changes.
Creating training materials and providing answers to common questions can help lessen the impact on future users as they adapt to using the new software.
-
Provide the URL for the Web Server to remaining users.
Remaining users can be upgraded with better confidence knowing that both experienced and less-experienced users are comfortably using the new software.
Assuming no major issues are discovered, upgrade additional users' workstations every few days or at predetermined intervals until all workstations are upgraded.
- Once all users are accessing the new OnBase Web Server, communicate that all work should now be performed using the new version.
- After a period of time, stop the previous version Web Server. When appropriate, completely shut down the previous version Web Server.
- Check and verify that the backup processes are functional.
