The OnBase EDM Services module has evolved over time. Historically, this module provided two distinct pieces of functionality: the control and tracking of modifications to documents, and generic integration with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) applications. While revisions to .TIF and other file formats are possible, the majority of document revision and versioning now occurs with Microsoft Office documents.
The Microsoft Office Suite has undergone significant changes in regard to architecture and integration opportunities with each new version. With the release of OnBase 10.0, Microsoft Office integrations became version specific, beginning with Office 2007. This change allows for tighter and richer integrations supporting Word, Excel and PowerPoint. When upgrading from any OnBase version prior to 10.0 to a newer version that includes a Microsoft Office integration, an enterprise approach to Office products should be considered.
