Another way to mitigate the risk associated with data stored in the Disk Groups is to use the Distributed Disk Services (DDS) module. DDS restricts access to the physical Disk Group locations to a single service that handles all OnBase file retrieval, and encrypts the data when it is in transit.

DDS is beneficial because allowing users access to the physical location of the Disk Groups can increase your risk of exposure to malicious action. The majority of OnBase users do not need access to your Disk Group shares. It can also greatly reduce the administrative overhead required to configure and maintain granular controls for all users and directories.
