Conditional external text can be inserted into a statement providing flexibility in the text displayed dependent on defined parameters.

To insert a conditional external text field:

  1. Click the Conditional External text button.

    Alternately, you can right-click on the statement and select Insert object | External object | Conditional Text box. If you chose this option, skip to step 3.

  2. Click on the area of the statement where you want to place the text. The Modify conditional external text item dialog box is displayed.
  3. Select an object in the Bound Object box to which you want to evaluate a condition against.
  4. Double-click on <Insert a new condition>. A Type Condition here node is created.
  5. Double-click on the Type Condition here node. The Condition under which formulas are shown dialog box is displayed.
  6. Highlight the Type Condition here text and click Delete from the top box.
  7. Select a field definition type from the left box
  8. Double-click on a field definition in the right box. The field is displayed in the top box.
  9. Repeat steps 7 to 8 until the condition contains the proper parameters.
    Note:

    If you are entering static text for comparison, the value must be enclosed in quotation marks (“). For example, if you want to compare an amount value, a condition may be similar to the following: [Amount}=”500”

  10. Click OK.
  11. Under the condition node that you just configured, double-click on the Type Value Formula here. The Function Editor is displayed.
  12. Highlight the Type Value Formula here text and click Delete from the top box.
  13. Select a field definition type from the left box
  14. Double-click on a field definition in the right box. The field is displayed in the top box.
  15. Repeat steps 13 to 14 until the value formula contains the proper parameters.
  16. Click OK.
  17. With the value formula selected, you can format the text that is displayed by using the Formula text attributes section to format the text. You can select a font, a font size, a color, and text effects.
  18. You can configure multiple conditions to suite your statement needs. Click OK when finished.
