Objects selected as a group are enclosed in a blue box. Individual objects that are hovered over are enclosed in a red box.
You can modify the properties of an object by right-clicking the hovered object and selecting Properties. You can also hover over the object until a pop-up box, like the one shown here, appears.
Then click the Modify object link to modify the properties.
