Distributed Centera Service (DCS) is a 3-tier application server used to provide a single point of access to Centera servers in an intranet. DCS is used primarily in enterprises that have a large number of users accessing a Centera server through the OnBase Client. DCS regulates resources requesting Centera services and provides caching on the DCS server to increase read performance of the Centera Disk Group copies.
Distributed Centera Services is only for use with the OnBase Client. The OnBase Web server, APIs, and Configuration module cannot use DCS.
This diagram illustrates how OnBase connects to Disk Groups via DCS:
If not using OnBase as a service, 3-tier mode is recommended. In this mode, the DCS server itself is the only system that needs access to the PEA file, preventing users from accessing the file.
A combination of 2-tier mode and 3-tier mode can be used.
