To connect to a Distributed Services server, select the Connect tab. The server to connect to is set under the DDS Server Selection options:
-
Select the ODBC Source to use from the drop-down list. This is the ODBC of the data source for the Distributed Services server you want to connect to. You do not have to select an ODBC source.
-
Select the Distributed Services server to connect to by one of the following methods:
-
DDS Server: Select the server from the drop-down list. The options in this list are based on the ODBC source selected.
-
Recent DDS Servers: Select a Distributed Services server that was recently connected to from the drop-down list.
-
Address: Enter the UNC, DNS, or IP address of the server to connect to. This value is automatically populated if the Distributed Services server is selected by one of the other methods.
-
Enter the Port to use for the connection in the field provided. The default value of 2185 is already entered for the port. You only need to change this value if your Distributed Services server uses a port other than the default port.
-
Select Show Disabled Servers under Connection Settings to allow disabled servers to be selected from the DDS Server drop-down list. If this option is not selected only enabled servers are available for selection.
-
Click Connect.
If the An error occurred while connecting to the server message is displayed after attempting to connect, ensure that the Address and Port of the server are correct and that the port is open through any gateways and/or firewalls. Also ensure that the Distributed Services server is running on the machine you are trying to connect to
