With the Document Type Redaction settings, you can configure your Document Type to allow users to create a redaction annotation on a document and permanently burn the redaction onto the document. Redactions can be saved only on image documents and Image Rendered PDFs belonging to Document Types configured for redactions.
Redactions can also be saved on text documents in the Web Client.
Image Rendered PDFs do not support redactions in the Unity Client.
You can configure the redacted document to be saved as a revision of the current document or archived to a different Document Type, depending on your licensing.
-
For redacted documents that will be stored to separate Document Types, the original document can retain the annotation that was used to burn the redaction or the original document can be deleted, but neither is required.
-
You can configure completely different permissions for the redacted document and even store it in a different Disk Group for security or retention purposes. By storing the redacted documents to a separate Document Type from the original documents, a separate security scheme can be applied to each Document Type. In this manner, certain users can be granted viewing rights to the original document without the redaction annotations, while others can be granted limited rights to view only the redacted documents.
The user saving the redaction does not require rights to the Document Type assigned as the redaction Document Type. The user requires rights to the redaction Note Type and the Modify privilege for the Document Type being redacted.
