When a Keyword Type Group is created, a database index is created for each Keyword Type in the Keyword Type Group. Oftentimes, only two or three Keyword Types in a Keyword Type Group are used for searching.
-
Keyword indexes that are not used for searching consume disk space and incur database overhead, and can be dropped to reclaim disk space and reduce database overhead.
-
Keyword indexes that are used for searching can be combined into a composite index, which can greatly reduce the database load for document retrievals, thereby enhancing database performance.
It is considered a best practice to review Keyword Type Group configuration in the OnBase Configuration module and interview users to determine the Keyword Types in Keyword Type Groups that they commonly use to search. If your analysis finds that users are only using a few Keyword Types in Keyword Type Groups for searching, your OnBase solution may benefit from dropping keyword indexes and creating composite indexes. Consult Hyland Software Database Services to determine if indexes can be dropped and created.
Dropping keyword indexes or creating composite indexes without first consulting Hyland Software is a violation of the Hyland Software Database Use Policy.
