An Overlay is an image that can be imposed onto a document when it is viewed, printed, or faxed. Overlays provide the benefit of displaying static information (such as the issuing company's name and address) over changing invoice information (such as purchase prices and ship to addresses).

For example, an overlay with your company's logo, and special charted areas can be applied to a text document to make it appear as a purchase order, or some other form used by your company.

The Overlay Type feature allows you to designate different overlays for viewing, printing and faxing. For example: you may want to use an overlay stamped with REPRINT for faxing and printing, but not for viewing. You may want a high resolution overlay for printing, but not for faxing or viewing. Another feature of overlays is the ability to differentiate between text and image file formats within the Document Type, and apply overlay characteristics accordingly.

The type of overlay(s) assigned can be modified at any time.

Note:

Any change in assigned overlay(s) will be effective for all documents currently stored in the Document Type. To make a change in the overlay assignments for future documents, without changing the overlay assignment(s) for the currently stored documents, use the Revision feature at the Overlay Options dialog box.

Note:

An overlay should not exceed an 8- to 16-bit color depth. Higher color depths may prevent users from viewing documents with overlays in the OnBase Web Client and other Core Services applications. In addition, overlays that use higher color depths or that have a large file size can dramatically increase the size of the document when the document is printed or saved outside of OnBase.

Note:

An overlay is not the same as a background image, such as a watermark. Background images may be configured as part of a Print Format. For more information on configuring a background image, see Print Format Configuration.
