- In the Configuration module, select Document | Document Types.
-
Click View / Print. The View/Print Options dialog box is displayed:
- If multiple revisions of the Document Type exist, select the revision that is affected by the new settings.
-
Select the default print format for printing all documents of the current Document Type from the Default Print Format drop-down list.
Note:
If <None> is selected, the first Print Format will automatically be selected in the Print dialog box when printing a document.
- The Default Screen Font (Fixed Pitch) drop-down list allows you to choose a different font for the Document Type when it is viewed or printed.
-
Set the parameters that will define the viewable/printable area of the document: Lines per page and Characters per line. While configuring these options, you should consider the physical printing area. For example, if you configure Lines per page at 75 and only 65 lines will fit on a printed page, you will not be able to print the entire page in the viewer in its actual size on a single page.
- Type a number in the Lines per page field that the system will use to define the end of each page in the document. The end of page will be displayed as a blue line when viewing the document. The end of page will be interpreted when performing viewing and printing functions. For example, if 40 is specified, only 40 lines will print on each page when a print request is made. Also, if a note is configured to display on all pages of the document, it will appear after every 40 lines.
-
Type the maximum number of characters that can be displayed on each line of the document in the Characters per line field. The OnBase Client displays up to 513 characters per line. If users need to view more than 513 characters per line, then the documents should be assigned a custom file format that is configured to display documents in an external text viewer, such as Microsoft Notepad. For information about configuring file formats, see Configuring File Formats.
Text documents viewed from the Unity Client and the Web Client display a different number of characters per line than those viewed from the OnBase Client. In the OnBase Client, text documents are rendered as text. In the Unity Client and the Web Client, text documents are rendered as images.
In the Unity Client and the Web Client, the number of characters displayed per line is controlled by the Characters per line setting. For example, if the Characters per line setting is 132, only characters in columns 1–132 are displayed. Characters in columns 133+ are not displayed.
In the OnBase Client, the number of characters displayed per line depends on the width of the document viewer. The Characters per line setting controls how narrow the viewer must be before the horizontal scroll bar is displayed. For example, if the Characters per line setting is 132, the horizontal scroll bar is displayed only when width of the viewer accommodates 132 characters or fewer. If the width of the viewer accommodates more than 132 characters, the horizontal scroll bar is not displayed, and the characters that do not fit in the viewer appear to be cut off.
-
The value specified for Characters per line affects the degree of shift applied to the Overlay when right/left and top/bottom adjustments are made to the Overlay configuration. Generally, the more Characters per line, the finer the degree of shift.
The value specified for Characters per line also affects the text that is selected from the document. In the OnBase Client, if data is selected from a text document using the Line select method, the entire line is highlighted, but you will only be able to select the same number of characters as the value defined for the Characters per line setting. If you select a line with more characters than the Characters per line setting, the selected value is truncated.
If you are selecting data using the Column select method, you are not limited by the Characters per line setting. If you are selecting data using the Block select method, you will only be able to select a block as wide as the Characters per line setting, but the height of the selected block is not limited.
In addition, copying text to the clipboard is limited by the Characters per line setting. If the copied line of text is longer than the Characters per line setting, the copied line will be truncated to the length of the Characters per line setting.
The OnBase Web Client renders text documents as images, so it is not affected by these limitations.
-
If a Save As or Copy Page to Clipboard operation is performed, the Report footer line and Report header line items can be used to strip unwanted text from the top and bottom of each page. The value specified for Report header line indicates the number of lines removed from the top of the page. The Report footer line indicates the number of lines removed from the bottom of the page.
If an external or internal text search is performed, Report header line and Report footer line will control the number of lines pulled from the top (header) and bottom (footer) of the page, and included in the Text Search Report.
- Click Apply.
- Repeat Steps 3-9 to configure settings for other revisions.
