When configuring Keyword Type Groups, you are prompted whether you would like to Allow Null Values in the Document Type.

Null Values are the system's way of handling blank Keyword Values, especially pertaining to Keyword Types with Currency, Date, or Numeric Data Types.

  • If you do not Allow Null Values, OnBase will automatically supply empty values for any Keyword Values left unindexed. For Currency or Numeric Data Types, blank Keyword Values will be added to the database as the value 0. For Date or Date & Time Data Types, blank Keyword Values will be added to the database as the value 1/1/1964, but will appear blank in OnBase.

Empty values will be factored into queries and retrieval. A search that uses comparative keyword operators will compare empty values to a provided Keyword Value.

  • If you do Allow Null Values, OnBase will consider that value null. Null values will not be factored into a query or retrieval.

Once you have selected to Allow Null Values and saved the settings, you cannot deselect it.

Note:

If your Keyword Type Group is a Multi-Instance Keyword Type Group, Allow Null Values is automatically applied.
