Print queues manage the manner in which documents are printed by defining the method for generating the print request (locally or over a network), as well as the type of printer that will be used to print the document when it is sent to that queue.

Note:

When documents are printed from Core Services applications, such as the Web Client, the only valid print queues are network print queues and Local Printer, which prints to the workstation's default printer. Local print queues are not supported because they are mapped in the OnBase Client using Workstation Options, which are not used by Core Services applications.

  1. In the Configuration module, select Printing | Print Queues. The Print Queue Configuration dialog box is displayed.
  2. Type the name of the new print queue into the Print Queue field and click Create. Click Delete to remove a print queue from the system.
    Note:

The Windows User Default Printer and Local Printer print queues are system print queues that use default Microsoft Windows settings to determine which printer to use. When a user sends documents to the Windows User Default Printer print queue, the documents will be printed using the printer that is currently set as the user's default printer. When a user sends documents to the Local Printer print queue, the documents will be printed using the printer that is currently set as the workstation's default printer. For information on changing a user or workstation's default printer, see your Microsoft Windows documentation.

  3. If a new print queue was created, the Assign Print Queue to User Group dialog box is displayed.

To assign a print queue to one or more User Groups, select the appropriate User Group(s) from the Available User Groups list and click Add.

To remove a print queue from one or more User Groups, select the appropriate User Group(s) from the Selected User Groups list and click Remove.

  4. Click Close to save your changes.
  5. Click Settings to configure a new or an existing print queue. The Print Queue Settings dialog box allows you to specify how the jobs sent to a print queue are processed.
    Note:

Once a print queue type has been saved, you cannot change it.

    Print Queue Type

    Description

    Local Printer

Documents printed to this queue will be printed immediately. The system will not track the progress of the print job. Jobs printed to a local print queue are not recoverable in the system.

    Network Print Queue

The job will not print until a workstation has been started in the print server mode which services this print queue.

When the job has finished printing, the job will be removed from the queue.

An advantage of using a network print queue with a print server is that should something go wrong during the printing of the job, the job can be restarted and sent to the printer again, starting at a user-defined point within the job.

    Note:

Only print queues set to the Network Print Queue type will be available for use when configuring a Print Cluster Queue.

    Print Cluster Queue

Represents a collection of network print queues used for Image Statements batch rendering. The advantages of a network print queue are retained when a print cluster queue is used. A print cluster enables multiple printers to service a collection of documents which results in faster printing. Since all the printers involved are network printers, these jobs can be tracked and recovered as any other job sent to a network print queue. Print Clusters can only be used for batch rendering Image Statements.

    Print Size Warning

    Description

Maximum # of pages before print warning

Sets the maximum number of pages in a document OnBase prints before a message requesting the user to allow the number of pages to be printed is displayed.

Click Yes to continue the print job, or click N o to cancel the print job.

  6. To configure a print cluster queue, specify which network print queues will be members of the cluster. When documents are printed to a print cluster, the number of documents is divided by the number of print queues that are members of the cluster. The result is the number of documents that will be sent to each printer in the cluster.

Click Cluster on the Print Queue Configuration dialog box. The Print Cluster Configuration dialog box displays.

The network print queues that are currently assigned to this cluster are listed in the Queues in the Print Cluster list. To add a print queue, select the print queue from the Available Print Queues and click Add. To remove a print queue from the print cluster, select the queue from the Queues in the Print Cluster and click Remove.

  7. Create a representative icon for the print queue by clicking Icon at the Print Queue Configuration dialog box. The Icons for: dialog box displays, and provides for the selection of both a large and small icon.
  8. A selection for the larger icon represents the print queue as it appears in the Print Queues window in OnBase. The Small Icon will represent the print queue when it is minimized or represented in other windows throughout the system.
  9. Depending on the type of print queue created, the following steps must be taken in order to successfully print from the print queue:
