The XML import file must conform to a specific hierarchy with the expected elements and attributes in order for the import to succeed.

To create a sample XML import file:

  1. In the Configuration module, select User / Group Import from the Users menu. The User / Group Import dialog box is displayed.
  2. Click the arrow in the lower left corner of the dialog box.

The Sample XML Import File pane is displayed.

  3. Copy all the text in the Sample XML Import File pane.
  4. Paste the copied text into a plain-text editor, such as Notepad.
    Note:

Do not copy the text into a binary-text editor, such as Microsoft Word. Binary-text editors can introduce invalid characters to the XML, which can cause the import to fail.

  5. Save the file with the XML file extension (*.xml). It can have any file name.
    Tip:

For information on updating the XML file to import user and User Group data, see Updating the XML Import File.
