Database/file servers should be dedicated purpose servers; that is, these servers should not be used as a domain controller, email server, print server, or proxy server. Network and disk I/O hardware should be optimized for performance and redundancy. Multiple network interface cards on servers are often required to minimize network bottlenecks.
