Acquire scans in the document using a scanner, or imports the document image from a scanner, digital camera, webcam, or other supported digital storage device.

Note:

Unity Briefcase does not support required Keywords. If a Document Type is configured with required Keywords, Unity Briefcase will successfully import those documents without the required Keywords.

To upload documents using the Acquire option:

  1. In the Create ribbon group on the Home tab, click Import:
  2. The Import layout is opened. In the Import ribbon group, click Acquire:
    Note:

    If more than one device is connected to your workstation, you are prompted to select an imaging device unless Hide Scanner Settings has been enabled in the Options drop-down of the Import pane.

    If you select a scanner:

  3. The device's scanning interface is displayed.
  4. Select the desired scan settings, such as image resolution and page size.
    Tip:

    Depending on your scanning interface, you can receive help by clicking the Help button, or clicking the Windows Help button in the upper-right corner and then clicking the setting.

  5. Click Scan.
  6. To preview, edit, and index the new imported document(s), see Completing the Import Process.
    Note:

    Black and white images are stored as Group 4 compressed TIFF images in OnBase. Color and grayscale images are stored as JPEG images.

    If you select a media storage device:

  7. The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Get Pictures interface is displayed.
    Note:

    If the camera is not detected, ensure that the Windows Imaging Service is enabled and started. For information on the Windows Imaging Service, consult the Windows help files.

  8. Select the images to import.
  9. Click Get Pictures.
  10. To preview, edit, and index the new imported document(s), see Completing the Import Process.

    If you select a camera or other device with capture capabilities:

  11. Select a capture mode.

    Select Photo to take still images.

    Select Video to take a video.

  12. Click OK. The Live Camera interface is displayed.
    Note:

    The Preview button is not available when taking videos.

  13. Click the Camera button to take a photo or begin recording.
  14. If taking photos, pressing the Camera button again will allow you to take additional photos. If taking a video, pressing the Camera button a second time will stop the recording.
  15. If you took photos, photos can be previewed by clicking the Preview button. Click the Preview button again to exit Preview mode.
    Note:

    The Preview button is not available for use with videos.

  16. While in preview mode, click the Delete button to delete the currently displayed photo.
  17. When you are satisfied with your photo(s) or video, click OK.
  18. If you took multiple photos, you are prompted to decide if all photos should become one multi-page document, or if each photo should become its own document.

    Click Yes to create one document. Click No to create multiple documents.
