Organizations are often tempted to replace hardware as part of an upgrade project. New servers come with new operating systems, often using different installation versions and processes than the equipment in the test environment. These types of differences have caused situations where OnBase worked in the test environment but failed in production.
The upgrade of servers should be treated as an independent upgrade. A recommended approach for upgrading hardware is to deploy the new hardware into the test environment and ensure that the existing OnBase solution runs successfully in the test environment on the new servers.
Database server upgrades sometimes include a database software upgrade, adding another set of risks that should be separate from OnBase upgrades. Changes to the database version could also include upgrades to the database client software, and many issues have occurred due to mismatched versions of database client and server software.
