There is an install wizard available for the Virtual Print Driver.

Note:

The version numbers for the installer and the Virtual Print Driver itself are independent of one another and may not be the same.

Note:

Ensure that you are using the appropriate executable or MSI file for your system's configuration. Hyland OnBase Virtual Print Driver x64.msi should be used for 64-bit systems, and Hyland OnBase Virtual Print Driver x86.msi should be used for 32-bit systems.

To launch the installer, double-click on the appropriate MSI file: Hyland OnBase Virtual Print Driver x64.msi or Hyland OnBase Virtual Print Driver x86.msi. Follow the prompts:

  1. Specify a location for the Spool Directory.

Files are temporarily stored in this folder before being imported into OnBase.

The installer defaults to C:\OnBase Printer Spool\ for the location. To specify a different location, click Change.

See Available Variables for a list of variables you can use in the spool folder name.

    Note:

Users running the Virtual Print Driver must have write permissions to this location.

    Note:

This directory forms the root of File Path path in the Import from Virtual Printer dialog box, which is displayed when OnBase detects a print job.

  2. Select the appropriate Environment option. The following options are available:
    • Auto-Detect (recommended) - select this option if you are not sure whether you are running the Virtual Print Driver on a Remote Desktop environment.

    • Terminal Server - select this option if you are running the Virtual Print Driver on a Remote Desktop environment or on a machine that may have multiple users logged on simultaneously.

    • Standard - select this option if you are not running the Virtual Print Driver on a Remote Desktop environment.

  3. Click Next, then click Install.
  4. When the installation is completed, click Finish.

The installer handles the copying of all necessary files and registration of DLLs. Please note that it also creates a virtual printer port. This port should always be the selected port for use with the Virtual Print Driver.
