Q: How can I reduce the size of the images produced by the Virtual Print Driver?
A: By default, the printer is set up to print in Black & White mode, but it can be changed to Color mode. Unless you are printing color images for a specific reason, printing in color is not recommended since color images are much larger than bi-tonal (black-and-white) images.
To return to the default color option and print black-and-white images:
- Select Devices and Printers from the Start menu.
- Right-click on the Virtual Printer.
- Click Printing preferences.
- Click on the Paper/Quality tab.
- Select the Black & White option.
Clicking on the Advanced button at the bottom of this property page displays a dialog that allows you make further changes, including changing the default DPI.
You can also reduce the size of your images by using JPEG compression instead of LZW compression. For more information on this setting, see Accessing Virtual Printer Configuration.
