Filters can be configured in order to access specific information in the WorkView client. Filters can be used in views or in filter bars. Filters can be created from the filters screen or they can be created during the filter bar creation process.
To create a filter:

You can create a filter is one of two ways. In the Repositories pane, right-click on the class you want to create a filter for and select New | Filter or click the Filter button in the WorkView ribbon. The Create Filter wizard is displayed.
- Enter a Name for the filter.
- Enter a Description for the filter.

Click Next.
- Double-click on each attribute that you want to use as a display column for the filter. You can find a specific attribute by entering characters that are within the name of the attribute in the Find field. You can edit the column heading in the attributes corresponding Heading column. The Heading value can be up to 255 characters.
- Use the up and down buttons to organize your attributes. Top most attribute will be the left most column in the filter display.

Click Next.
- Select the appropriate options for the filter. Information about these options can be found in Advanced Tab
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.

Double-click on the filter in the Repositories pane. This screen consists of the five following tabs: Display Columns, User Prompts, Fixed Constraints, Document Constraints, and Sorting. Additional configuration can be done for the filter in these tab. For more information, see Display Columns Tab, User Prompts Tab, Fixed Constraints Tab, and Sorting Tab.
To configure a filter:
- With the filter open, in the Properties pane, within the General tab, enter a Description for the filter. Line breaks cannot be used in the Description field.
- In the Display Columns tab, select the appropriate attributes you want to use in the results display. See Display Columns Tab for further details.
- In the User Prompts tab, select the attributes you want to allow users to search. This step is optional. See User Prompts Tab for further details.
- You can create constraints for a filter in order to limit search results in the Fixed Constraints tab. This step is optional. See Fixed Constraints Tab for further details.

You can specify the sorting order for a filter in the Sorting tab. This step is optional. See Sorting Tab for further details.
Note:
Text, Formatted Text, Calculated, and Alphanumeric data type attributes with a length greater than 255 cannot be used in User Entry Constraints, Fixed Constraints, and Sorting.
Note:Relationship Calculated attributes cannot be used in Display Columns, User Entry Constraints, Fixed Constraints, and Sorting.
Note:The Class Name system attribute is not available for external classes.
