Sub filters can be thought of as filters within filters. In order to create a sub filter for a filter, there must be a direct relationship to the filter from the originating filter, either through an association class or a relationship attribute. Sub filters allow you to narrow down filter results based on related attributes among linked classes in the WorkView client.

An example of sub filter use would be the following instance: There is a Departments class, an Employees class, and an Issues class. The Employees class has a relationship attribute of Department Name that is related to the Departments class. The Issues class has a relationship attribute of Employee Name that is related to the Employees class. In this example, a filter for the Employees class could be a sub filter of a filter for the Departments class and a filter for the Issues class could be a sub filter of a filter for the Employees class.

Sub filters are configured during filter bar item configuration. To edit a sub filter:

  1. In the Repositories pane, select the filter bar that contains the filter bar item for which you want to configure a sub filter.
  2. In the Properties pane, select the Filter Bar Items tab.
  3. Double-click on the filter bar item.
  4. In the wizard, navigate to this screen.
  5. Click Configure.
  6. Select the filter you want to use as the sub filter. You may be able to create multiple levels of sub filters. If there are relationship attributes that are associated with other filters, you will be able to expand the top level filter and select additional levels of filtering. Whatever level of filter you select will be added, along with its parent filter(s). The following is an example of a filter with two levels of sub filtering.
  7. Click OK.
  8. If you want to change the display name of the sub filter, enter the new name under the Name column.

    To remove configure sub filters:

  9. You can remove sub filters by clicking Clear All.
  10. You will be prompted with a Are you sure you want to remove subfilters from this filter bar item? message. Click Yes to remove the sub filters.
