Templates can be used to display data in a consistently formatted display. Created templates are saved in the database.

Note:

For applications created in Studio versions prior to 23, the Configuration section is disabled. In such case, the following message is displayed above the pane:

'Please migrate to our new version. Use WorkView Doctor for the migration.'

To do this, follow instructions in Updating Views.

However, templates can still be used by the end users without the migration.

To configure a Display template action:

  1. Select the appropriate Template File Name from the drop-down list. Alternately, you can create or modify a template by selecting the drop-down list next to the Template File Name field and select New or Modify.
    CAUTION:

Do not open and edit Microsoft Word templates.

If you choose to create a new template or modify an existing template, the Template dialog box is displayed.

  2. For a new template, enter a name for a new template in the Enter a template file name: field.
  3. Enter the text that will generate the formatted output in the Template field. To insert data from WorkView, use the Insert Token drop-down list and select the appropriate data to insert by using macros. By selecting a macro from the wizard pane, properly coded tags are inserted into the template. For more information on data insertion options, see Data Value Insertion Tags.
    Note:

When using a multi-byte language the following must be placed withe the HTML <head> tag: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

    Note:

Calculated attributes are not available for selection.

    Tip:

You can also click Browse to open an existing template file to load the configuration into this dialog box.

  4. When the template is complete, click OK.
  5. In the Display as File Type drop-down list, select the format that you want the information to be displayed in. You can select Word Document, HTML, PDF, Text Document, or RTF.
    Note:

You do not need to save the repository when you modify a template because the template is saved to a file.

    Note:

The Word Document and PDF options are not recommended for lengthy reports.
