Masking can be configured directly by clicking Masking in the WorkView ribbon or by create a new masking during attribute configuration. To configure a mask:

  1. From the Masks dialog box, click Add. The Mask Configuration dialog box is displayed.
  2. Enter the Name of the mask.
  3. Enter a Description.
  4. In the Mask section, enter the pattern that the values using this mask will follow in the Mask Pattern field using the Mask Pattern Definitions to define the Mask Pattern. See Mask Pattern Definitions for more information on the definitions available.
    Note:

Mask patterns that are available in the system by default will be shaded in gray in the Mask Pattern Definitions box. Any custom mask patterns that are configured will not be shaded in gray.

    Note:

The values entered in the Mask Pattern field are case sensitive.

  5. In the Field Placeholder field, enter spaces for values that will be entered that are not static and enter the static character(s) where appropriate in the field. Once the number of characters in the Mask Pattern and Field Placeholder fields match, the OK and Test Mask buttons are enabled. Instead of spaces you can enter characters. These characters will be displayed in the client before data is entered. All characters in the mask need to be represented with an appropriate character/space in this field.
    Note:

Spaces cannot be the last static character for a value when entering data. Values ending with a static space when entered in the client will be invalid. For example, if you have a phone number with an extension and you mask it as follows with a space static character before the ? character, entering a value without an extension would be invalid: S000S000S0000S?S0000. Alternately, you could configure it in the following way, where the first static character after the ? character is a space, and not have this issue: S000S000S0000?SS0000

    Note:

The value entered in the Field Placeholder field should not be a value that could ever be entered as a legitimate value. If a value entered in a masked field in the client matches the value entered in the Field Placeholder field for the masked field within OnBase Studio, the value will be cleared from the field automatically in the client.

    Note:

The * wildcard character should not be used as a static mask character.

  6. Click Test Mask. The Test Attribute Mask dialog box is displayed.
  7. Enter a value that should work in the mask being tested. If the value is valid for the mask, a Value is valid for mask. message is displayed. If the value is not valid, no message will display.
  8. Click Test to test your masking.
  9. When your mask configuration is complete, click Close.

You can modify a mask by selecting it in the Masks dialog box and clicking Modify.

You can delete a mask by selecting it in the Masks dialog box and clicking Delete.
