Configuring User Entry attributes allows you to configure the attribute search fields that users will be able to enter values into in order to retrieve objects. One or many attribute search fields can be configured.
To configure user entry constraints:
-
Click the User Entry button.
-
Double-click on the attribute in the left column that you want to use to use for constraints.
Note:
Text and Formatted Text attributes are not available for selection.
-
If you want to use a data set or type ahead field associated with an attribute, you can enable data set usage by double-clicking in the attribute's Drop Down Type column.
If the attribute does not have a data set configured and it is not a text-based relationship attribute, the column will not be enabled and None will be displayed in the column. If None is selected for any field, regardless of its properties, the field will not have type ahead functionality.
If the selected attribute is configured with a data set, the DataSet option is available. If you want to use the Data Set associated with the attribute in the client's filter field, select the DataSet.
If the selected attribute is a relationship attribute, you be able to select Search Filter Results or Search Class Results.
If you select Search Filter Results, the drop-down for the attribute in the client's filter field will contain the values that are returned from the filter as it is configured, respecting the constraints. The drop-down will only show values for which the filter will return results.
If you select Search Class Results the drop-down for the attribute in the client's filter will contain the values that exist for the attribute within the attribute's class. Since this is the relationship attribute, it will display the value for the class to which the attribute belongs and not necessarily the class associated to the filter you are configuring.
Note:
The Class Name system attribute cannot be configured as a type ahead constraint.
-
To change the value you would like to be used as the prompt for the user entry attribute field that is displayed, double-click in the attribute's Prompt column. Enter the text you want displayed.
-
If you want the user prompt field to be a required entry, select the check box in the Required column.
-
Repeat steps 2- 5 for each attribute you want to configure.
You can move a configured user entry attribute up and down in the list by selecting the attribute and clicking the up and down buttons on the right side of the screen to place the attribute in the correct position in the list. You can delete configured attributes by clicking the delete button with the red x next to the attribute.
If your system is configured for full text searching and you want to enable full text searching for the filter, select Enable full text search. When this is selected you can specify a catalog to use for the search that differs from the application's default filter from the using Catalog drop-down list. If a full text catalog is not specified here, the full text catalog defined as the application's default catalog will be used.
