Life cycles can be assigned to Document Types, so that their associated documents can be viewed and routed through a life cycle.
Note:
The ability to view documents in a life cycle is controlled at the queue level. If a user has rights to a Workflow queue, they will also have rights to view all the documents in that queue, regardless of their security rights to the Document Types assigned to that queue.
