Document Types must be assigned to a life cycle in order for the document to enter the life cycle. Remember to assign your keywords to both the Document Types and any folders that you create. The Keyword Types are used to relate the documents that appear in the folder. Folders are used when you have related documents that may need to be viewed or used in the life cycle. If you do create a folder, it must be dynamic.
