In emergency situations, certain users may need immediate access to records that they normally are not allowed to access. The act of gaining Emergency Access also is called breaking the glass.

Emergency Access (or Break the Glass) is available only to users who have been granted Emergency Access privileges. When a user obtains Emergency Access to a patient, the user can access all content in the patient's record, regardless of the following:

  • The patient's VIP status

  • Document Collection privileges

A user with Emergency Access privileges can use Emergency Access to retrieve documents from any Document Type that belongs to at least one Document Collection. Emergency Access does not allow users to retrieve documents from Document Types that do not belong to at least one Document Collection.

For more information about Emergency Access, see OnBase Healthcare API Retrieval Flowcharts.
