When you delete an access control marking, you not only remove it from its picklist, but erase all established associations users, groups, and file plan elements have with the marking. Although you typically cannot modify records under a retention hold, this operation removes the marking from records under a retention hold that have the marking applied. To delete an access control marking, complete the following steps.

This process might expend significant server resources. Perform this action during non-peak hours.
  1. In Management Console, in the left pane, under Select Department, select a department from the list.
  2. In the left pane, expand Records and click Picklists.
  3. In the Picklists pane, select the picklist that contains the target access control marking and click Markings.
  4. In the Access Control Markings dialog box, select the target picklist and click Delete.
  5. In the prompt, click OK.
