To set the time period for a simple or advanced retention policy in Retention Policy Designer, complete the following steps.

In Retention Policy Designer, perform one of the
following procedures depending on your policy type.
Layout Design Steps Simple policy - Click the Time Period tab.
Advanced policy with a single phase and multiple paths - In the Paths column, select the path.
- Click the Time Period tab.
Advanced policy with multiple phases - In the Phases column, select the phase.
- In the Paths column, select the path.
- Click the Time Period tab.

On the Time Period tab, in the
Date type list, perform one of the following actions.
Situation Steps To set the retention period based on a custom property date - Click Custom property.
- In the Number field, type an integer.
- In the Period list, select a duration, such as weeks or years.
- In the From list, to start the policy using a custom property date, select the date name.
To set the retention period based on a date period - Click Date period.
- In the Number field, type an integer.
- In the Period list, select a duration, such as weeks or years.
- In the From list, select a date period.
- In the When list, to start the policy when the date period begins or ends, select Begin or End.
To set the retention period based on an event date - Click Event date.
- In the Number field, type an integer.
- In the Period list, select a duration, such as weeks or years.
To set the retention period based on a system date - Click System date.
- In the Number box, type an integer.
- In the Period list, select a duration, such as weeks or years.
- In the From list, to start the policy using a system date, select Creation date, Last viewed date, Last modified date, Last reviewed date, Filing date, Publication date, or Received date.
