The physical file reference allows you to track the physical location, such as the building, shelf, or box location, of an item. Use this procedure to reference a file that is not stored in Perceptive Content, or to store the physical file reference data separate from the item that you want to reference. To create a physical file reference, complete the following steps.
The method you use to assign the location and
property values to the new physical file reference depends on how
your administrator defined your system.
- In the explorer, click .
- Perform one of the following actions to assign properties to the new physical file reference:

Under Document Options, select any of the following options:
- Add new item to version control. Places the new physical file reference under version control.
- Send to workflow queue. Enables you to select a queue to route the physical file reference for further review or processing.
- Under Physical Properties, in the Physical file template list, select the name of the template on which you want to base the physical file reference.
- In the Physical properties box, select or type a value for each property that describes the physical location of the item.
- Click OK.
After you create the physical file reference on for an item,
the physical file reference indicator appears in status bar in the
explorer and in the Has Physical File Reference column in the search
results grid.
You can add pages to the physical file reference.
