Many of these fields are required in order to successfully declare a record. To complete properties for a record, complete the following steps.

  1. On the Record tab, in the Properties group, verify that the values are correct or update them as necessary.
    The values displayed in the Properties fields can be inherited from the document or populated from an application plan. If you select an application plan, inherited values can be overwritten by values set in the application plan.
  2. In Record type list, select a record type.
    The record type value you select determines the displayed custom properties.
  3. Optional. Under Custom Properties, select an option.
    1. Use default values. Use the default values assigned when the property is created in Management Console.
    2. Use existing document values. For custom properties shared between the record type and the document type, select this option to keep the custom property values associated with the document.
    The values displayed in the Custom Properties fields can be inherited from the document or populated from an application plan.
  4. Optional. Modify values for displayed custom properties.
  5. Under Record Properties, modify the fields as appropriate for your business. The following fields are required.
    • Author
    • Originating organization
    • Publication date
    The default values displayed in the Record Properties fields can be overwritten by values set in an application plan.
